BOTANICAL WORKSHOPS & EXPERIENCES

The Tinta Experience

A Journey into Natural Dyeing

Awaken your creative self through a hands-on, sensory-rich experience where nature and artistry intertwine.

The Tinta Experience is a half-day creative retreat that invites you to explore two fascinating natural dyeing techniques—Eco-Printing and Indigo Dyeing—using most of the botanicals grown at the farm.

With Lourdes as your guide, you’ll experiment with eco-printing, transferring the vibrant hues of flowers and leaves onto fabric through flower pounding (Tatakizome) and bundle dyeing. Then, you’ll dive into indigo’s deep, mysterious blues, learning to create an organic indigo vat and explore surface design techniques using resist templates and shapes, melted beeswax, and clay paste.

Each step of this experience is an embrace to the art of slowing down, (re)connecting with nature, ourselves, and each other, and creating wearable art as a tangible memory of our time together.

What's Included in Your Experience:

  • 🪻 Eco-Printing – Hands-on lesson in flower pounding & bundle dyeing. Whether you're drawn to the rhythmic release of hammering fresh blooms onto fabric or the delicate process of steaming floral imprints onto silk, this experience offers a hands-on journey into natural dyeing. *Please see note below.

  • 💙 Indigo Dyeing – Learn to build an organic indigo vat & explore resist techniques. Dyeing with Indigo is the perfect example of plant magic. Since the indigo pigment is not soluble in water, dyeing textiles with it requires an understanding of its chemistry. But don’t you worry, this class only requires your curiosity on how to work with plant-based indigo powder - everything else can be taught! In the summer, interact with Persicaria tinctoria in Lourdes’ garden and learn how to tend to Manitoba-grown indigo.

  • 🌿 Farm & Studio Time – A 5-hour mini retreat with guided, hands-on creative exploration

  • 🎨 All Materials Provided – Including scoured and pre-mordanted fabrics & a take-home collection of your beautifully dyed textiles

  • 🥂 Snacks & Refreshments - throughout our time together! Catered food from a local business.

  • 🌀 Take home one (1) beautifully dyed silk scarf and cotton swatches dyed with flowers, one (1) 43x90-in cotton shawl and 3 different sample sizes of cotton fabric dyed with indigo. Infused with your creative energy and plant colours

Cost: $297 plus applicable taxes

📍Location: Southeast Manitoba, 70 km from Central Winnipeg, about 10km south of Richer, MB. The exact location will be shared after booking a class.

The Tinta Experience is more than just a workshop, it is a catalyst for an inspired life—a reminder that creativity is not a talent but the ability to play and is always within reach, waiting to be awakened.

NEW OPTION FOR 2025!

Some Indigo Dyeing experiences will be scheduled around the Full Moon. Join Lourdes on her new art practice ritual!

These sessions are an invitation to gather with other creatives and reflect on our recent wins, celebrate them, and make a tangible memory of this moment in time. Start a new practice of embodying what the full moon represents - celebration, culmination, and completion.  Guests are encouraged to create 12 white circles on fabric by dyeing it in the indigo vat 12x to get a medium dark blue. These circles represent the 12 full months of the year.

If indigo dyeing around the Full Moon appeals to you, make sure to select one of the following dates: April 12, May 11, June 14, or August 9, 2025. The calendar is always most up to date, feel free to check back for additional dates anytime.

MANITOBA POETRY WORKSHOP

Summer Solstitch with Jennifer + Lourdes Still

I am so excited for another one-of-a-kind workshop at the farm, and this time with someone extra special in my life.

Celebrate the longest day of the year with flowers, threads, and words with me (Lourdes) and my brilliant (and favorite) sister-in-law and poet Jennifer Still. The newly appointed Poet Laureate of Winnipeg (2025-26).

We will guide you through a writing and eco-printing process (aka floral dyeing) that preserves personal experiences and plants on an original, fabric page.

Poetry and floral dyeing are processes that connect us to memories and landscape and distil our subjects into vibrant meaning. And during our time together, you’ll learn to write a poem, eco-print flowers on textile, and stitch words. It’s a way of marking time and connecting with the light. Create a tangible memory in community, outdoors under the solstice skies. Join us! Celebrate the solstice with us!

Workshop highlights:

  • Poetry-writing exercise

  • Eco-printing techniques like steaming and hammering using dried and fresh dye flowers

  • Basic embroidery backstitch

Fee includes:

  • Organic cotton bandana + sample fabrics

  • Botanical dyed embroidery thread from Forage

  • Embroidery hoop and needles

  • Snacks and refreshments

This workshop is at cost. And if you are able, we suggest paying it forward by making a donation to a cause that is dear to you. Organizations to consider:

In case of inclement weather, the workshop will be held on Sunday, June 22nd.

About Jennifer Still

Jennifer Still's poetic practice reimagines what a page can be and how a poem can be experienced. She pierces, types, and illuminates her pages into sparking, embodied languages of home.

She is the author of four poetry books, Comma, Girlwood, and Saltations and the long poem legs, winner of the Malahat Review long poem prize and now an award-winning video collaboration with Winnipeg artists Christine Fellows and Chantel Mierau.

Jennifer has been named The City of Winnipeg's 4th Poet Laureate beginning April 2025.

MANITOBA WATERCOLOUR WORKSHOP

Intuitive Watercolour Painting with Jo Pinera

Discover the fluid and spontaneous nature of watercolour through intuitive and expressive mark-making.

In this workshop, participants will learn essential watercolour techniques and craft their own nature-inspired "paint brushes" to experiment with unique mark-making styles.

The fee includes all supplies including paper, pigments, paint brushes, foraged materials, twine, water containers, and paint palettes.

Jo Pinera @livingligaya (she/they) is a second-generation Filipino immigrant, interdisciplinary artist, activist, and instructor, born and raised on Treaty One Territory, Winnipeg Manitoba. Jo's art practice centers the foraging of earth pigments, such as ochre rocks and plants to create watercolour paint. She draws inspiration from ancestral teachings and biomimicry to ensure her practice is respectful, reciprocal, and responsive to the land and community.

Jo teaches Exploring Intuition in Watercolour at Forum Art Centre, helping students get into the practice of letting go of fear and expectations and learning to trust their intuition! Her teachings emphasize devoting time to let whatever happens on the page happen – to be guided by the unknown and learning to work with it and not against it.
